BCEW have made an immediate change to the Charles Ronayne Award for Outstanding Contribution to VI Cricket.
In the past this prestigious award was handed out annually, from this point on it will be awarded as and when appropriate with the year of award recorded.
This will enable the award to be given out more than once in a year when BCEW feel there are more than one deserving candidate.
BCEW Competitions Director Dave Gavrilovic explained:
“So many people make a massive contribution to our game and the point of this award is to recognise those people. Had the award continued to be annual we would already have candidates enough to run through 2032 even if nobody else did anything in the next eight years.
“We feel that it makes more sense to recognise individuals contributions whilst they are still involved in the game or immediately after they retire, to leave it several years defeats the point, hence this very necessary change.”
BCEW have had an award for outstanding contribution to VI cricket since 2015, in 2017 it was renamed in memory of Charles Ronayne, a former player for amongst other teams London Metro & Northants Steelbacks, who made a substantial contribution to our game as a volunteer before he passed away in 2017.
