Dave was Chairman of BCEW for 8 years and was President of World Blind Cricket for 3 years.

For BCEW he started the Twenty20 Cup, founded the Umpires Panel in partnership with Pete Marshall, he led on the agreement of BCEW’s first Memorandum of Understanding with the ECB & was the first VI person ever to win the Outstanding Contribution to Disability Cricket Award at the ECB OSCA’s.

As a player Dave won 18 England caps helping England to win the first ever Blind Cricket Ashes series in 2004 & also playing at the 2006 World Cup. He also captained Metro to a number of National League & Primary Club Cup wins across an 8 year playing career. Dave still holds the record for highest ever score by a totally blind player in the Primary Club Cup final.

After he sadly passed away in 2015 BCEW renamed their T20 Cup as the BCEW David Townley Memorial Twenty20 Cup in his memory.
