Profile
In 2008, BCEW’s Development Director and proud Yorkshireman John Garbett decided it was time his home county had a competitive and sustainable blind cricket team. He recruited some existing players, but also found plenty of new ones as well as enthusiastic sighted coaches and volunteers. The club now engages in development work all over the county, especially in local schools.
Its players span a very wide range of ages as well as ethnic minorities. Curiously, most of the latter would have been qualified to play for “God’s Country” under its traditional rules as they were born in the West Riding.
In 2011, the club won the National T20 competition and in 2013 finished in second place in the National League. Its players have also won a number of individual national awards.
It now runs a second team in the BCEW Development League, which offers ample playing opportunities for novice players.
