Asif Ali & Ed Hossell Joint Winners of Partially Sighted Player of the Year

Northants Lead Award Winners As Ed Hossell Breaks Record

For the second season in a row Northants Steelbacks were most successful in BCEW’s End of Season Awards, this time after their cup double. Gerald Porter won Wicketkeeper of the Year for the fifth time, whilst Mark Turnham won Total Batter of the Year to add to his previous wins in the bowler & overall player of the year categories. David Howells was named Partially Sighted Fielder of the Year after an extraordinary 19 fielder dismissals in 2021, whilst Asif Ali crowned a phenomenal season by claiming the BCEW Partially Sighted Player of the Year trophy jointly with Ed Hossell.

Hossell’s achievement sees him become the most successful person ever in BCEW’s End of Season Awards as the Somerset & England captain’s fourth Player of the Year award added to his one bowler of the year & 3 fielder of the year awards means he now has a total of 8 trophies.

Lancashire Lions also had some noteable successes in 2021 with Rashid Khan winning Low Partial Player of the Year, Wasim Afridi Partially Sighted Bowler of the year & Amjad Khan Total Bowler of the Year.

Sussex Sharks achieved a remarkable father and son double, with Dave Daniels named Total Player of the Year for the first time a few minutes after his son Phil Daniels had collected the BCEW Most Promising Player of the Year award.

Kent Spitfires picked up their first national level award with Amin Afshari claiming Total Fielder of the Year, whilst Metro’s only award this season was Matt Dean’s fourth time as Partially Sighted Batter of the Year. Surrey also had a single success, in their case it was Lois Turner winning Womens Player of the Year for a fifth time, continuing Surrey’s record of one of their players winning that particular award every season it has been awarded.

That all means that there were four first time award winners in 2021, Asif, Rashid, Amin & Phil.

BCEW’s match officials were also celebrated with Rob Hodgkinson named BCEW Umpire of the Year for the first time, Yvette Bailey claimed BCEW Scorer of the Year for the second season in a row, whilst The Charles Ronayne Award for Outstanding Contribution to VI Cricket went to Neil Robson for his brilliant work as an umpires appointer. As chosen by the umpires panel the winners of the 2021 BCEW Spirit Of Cricket Award were Wavertree Merseyside CC.
