A number of major changes have been made following the 2021 BCEW AGM, here’s a rundown of the most significant ones.
Rules
Changes Relating To Total Batters
In all matches two Total batters will be required to bat in the top six, regardless of where low partials bat.
Total batters can no longer be out hit wicket, although if they are otherwise dismissed in the process of hitting their wicket, such as bowled, LBW or caught, then they can still be given out via that method. If the wicket is hit by a total and they are not otherwise out no run can be scored off the bat, via leg byes or via byes & the batters must stay at the same ends.
Sight Classification
Once any player has a valid sight classification they will no longer be required to be retested other than in the following circumstances:
- They are the subject of a sight classification challenge.
- They obtained their classification as a junior player & must get a new classification on turning 18.
- They have a sight condition that may improve & therefore must get retested every 4 years.
- They choose to get a new test voluntarily.
Competitions
The BBS Cup has moved to be managed by BCEW going forward, hence it will now be called the BCEW Primary Club Heindrich Swanepoel Cup. Apart from that the competition will continue the same as it always has.
Clubs
BCEW are pleased to welcome Bradford & District into our Northern Regional League. B & D VICC have been working hard over a number of seasons to get their club established & following their victory at the 2021 BCEW Johnners Trust Development Festival they felt ready to compete more regularly.
Committee
Kathryn Jelfs-White has been elected to the newly created role of BCEW Women’s Programme Advisor. Kathryn, who plays for Somerset VICC, held the role as a co-opted committee member for the past year & at the AGM she was formally elected to the committee position.
George Ferguson has decided it is time for him to step back from his role on the BCEW committee. George has held a number of elected or co-opted roles over the past six years including Welfare & Safeguarding Director and Development Advisor, but due to other personal & sporting commitments has now resigned from the committee.
BCEW would like to thank George for all of his hard work on behalf of the charity, especially during his time working on safeguarding during which he established a number of practices and procedures that have been continued by his successor in that role.
Lois Turner has been co-opted to the committee to take over the role of Development Advisor, Lois, who plays for Surrey VICC & is captain of the UK Women’s VI Cricket Team, will initially hold the role until the 2022 AGM.
