First Time Winners Dominate BCEW Development Level Awards

First time winners have dominated the 2025 BCEW Development level awards. Of the ten trophies handed out seven have gone to first time winners.

No single club had the best of it, instead there were two awards each for Berkshire Stags, Dorset County VICT, Durham VICC, Greater Manchester Falcons & Hampshire VICC. Those were the first awards won by Falcons in their first competitive season.

In his first season of VI cricket Greater Manchester Falcons all rounder Umar Bhatti was named Partially Sighted Player of the Year, he scored 247 runs, took 8 wickets, 6 catches & 2 run outs.

Robert Sholto-Douglas-Vernon of Dorset County VICT regained the Total Player of the Year award that he first won in 2023. His batting average of 32 was high for a total as he scored 224 runs. His 9 wickets were only bettered by one mid partial & he claimed 5 catches which again is very high for a total.

Chris Wallace of Berkshire Stags was the clear winner of Low Partial Player of the Year. His 398 runs was the highest total in any sight category, he also took 6 wickets & 3 catches.

Most Promising player of the Year was a very strong category this season, Hampshire VICC youngster Deacon Finn came out on top after a phenomenal first season that saw him score 158 runs, take 3 wickets, 6 catches & 2 run outs. Deacon’s numbers are brilliant for an under 16 and they had to be to hold off very strong challenges for the award from Danial Shahid of Birmingham Stars & Zyare Outerbridge of RNC Hereford Bulldogs.

In the batter of the year category Ben Williams of Dorset County VICT followed up his Partially Sighted Bowler of the Year success from 2024 with another award, he scored 270 runs this season without being dismissed at all. Whilst it was a first award for Berkshire Stags’ Moshfique Ahmed for his 152 runs at for a total an incredible average of 50.6.
